Scuba diving in Southern Mozambique
Southern Mozambique
Based in the small, but vibrant town of Ponta do Ouro,
which has nightlife to suit all age groups, long walks on the
beach, efficient dive tour operators and accommodation from the
very basic, to the classy sea facing apartments, Mozambique offers
divers a casual and relaxed diving experience.
Dive camps are situated on the beachfront, surrounded by lush
tropical vegetation.
All kitting up is done within the dive camps and once complete,
kitted dive gear is loaded, and along with divers, transported
a short distance to the waiting dive boat on a pristine beach.
Launching from the beach through the surf line, is exhilarating
and an adventure all on its own. Dolphins can frequently be seen
playing in the wake of the boat and sightings of the amazing whale
shark are not un-common. Swims with these gentle giants are available.
Mozambique Dive sites
There
are a great variety of sites to choose from. The closer, shallower
sites found between 10 and 18 meters, offer beginner divers a
safe and exciting diving experience. Sites found 18 to 35 meters
can be enjoyed by more advanced divers.
At all sites there is a large variety of fish life, ranging from
Mantis Shrimp to potato bass, rays and moray eels to turtles and
clown fish to trigger fish. For the colour enthusiast, it is a
breathtaking kaleidoscope of wonderment.
For the “adrenalin junkie” there are spectacular
dive sites that produce Zambezis, dusky sharks and hammerheads
as well as other magnificent game fish such as king fish, potato
bass and manta rays.
Mozambique is renowned for its gentle conditions and excellent
visibility. Divers of all calibers will enjoy the Mocambican experience.
